Chinese princess (590s–623) **Princess Pingyang** ([Chinese](/wiki/Chinese_language "Chinese language"): 平阳公主; [pinyin](/wiki/Pinyin "Pinyin"): _Píngyáng Gōngzhǔ_ , formally ** Princess Zhao of Pingyang** ([Chinese](/wiki/Chinese_language "Chinese language"): 平陽昭公主, 590s-623) was the daughter of Li Yuan (later enthroned as [Emperor Gaozu](/wiki/Emperor_Gaozu_of_Tang "Emperor") Gaozu of Tang")), the founding emperor of the [Tang dynasty](/wiki/Tang_dynasty "Tang dynasty"). She helped him to seize power and eventually take over the throne from [Sui dynasty](/wiki/Sui_dynasty " Sui dynasty") by organizing an "Army of the Lady" ([Chinese](/wiki/Chinese_language "Chinese language"): 娘子軍), commanded by herself, in her campaign to capture the Sui capital [Chang'an](/ wiki/Chang'an "Chang'an"). In her own way, she was the first general of the Tang dynasty.
