Ransomware _**Rensenware**_ (蓮船ウェアー, 련선웨어; [stylized](/wiki/Stylized "Stylized") as _**rensenWare**_ ) is a [ransomware](/wiki/Ransomware "Ransomware" ) that infects [Windows](/wiki/Microsoft_Windows "Microsoft Windows") computers.[1][2] This ransomware was created as a joke by the Korean [programmer](/wiki/Programmer "Programmer") Kangjun Heo (허강준) (alias "0x00000FF").[3] The ransomware was discovered on April 6, 2017. _Rensenware_ is unusual as an example of ransomware in that it does not request the user pay the creator of the virus to decrypt their files, instead requiring the user achieve a required number of points in the 2009 [bullet hell](/wiki/Bullet_hell "Bullet hell") video game _[Touhou Seirensen ~ Undefined Fantastic Object](/wiki/Undefined_Fantastic_Object "Undefined Fantastic Object")_ before any decryption can take place. The main window displays Minamitsu Murasa, a character from the game.
