    Japanese actor-politician **Hideo Higashikokubaru** (東国原 英夫, _Higashikokubaru Hideo_ , born September 16, 1957) is a [Japanese](/wiki/Japanese_people "Japanese people") politician. He originally rose to fame as a comedian and actor under the stage name **Sonomanma Higashi** (そのまんま東, literally "Higashi without change" or "simply Higashi"), and was known for his role in the popular [game show ](/wiki/Game_show "Game show") _[Takeshi's Castle](/wiki/Takeshi's_Castle "Takeshi's Castle")_. He served as the Governor of [Miyazaki Prefecture](/wiki/Miyazaki_Prefecture "Miyazaki Prefecture") from 2007 to 2011, resigning to run against incumbent [Shintarō Ishihara](/wiki/Shintarō_Ishihara "Shintarō Ishihara") for [Governor of Tokyo] (/wiki/Governor_of_Tokyo "Governor of Tokyo") in the [2011 election](/wiki/2011_Tokyo_gubernatorial_election "2011 Tokyo gubernatorial election"), where he came in second.[3] He was elected to the [House of Representatives](/wiki/House_of_Representatives_\(Japan\) "House of Representatives \(Japan\)") in the [general election of 2012](/wiki/2012_Japanese_general_election "2012 Japanese general election" ), but resigned in December 2013.[4]
